And To You I Say
By: Franchesca Guzman
As many of you may know, I went through a painful experience today - and as those closest and dearest to me know, writing is my ultimate form of expression and release. This poem was inspired by the events today - here is my soul on the line...
Much Love,
Franchesca (Frankie)
******************************
You look at me and flash a smile, but your thoughts are filled with revulsion and bile
Your hatred and contempt have no cure, but you’re not a racist, you are so sure.
Words fly out of your mouth so effortlessly without remorse, because to you it happens naturally, there is no recourse
Here I am just a spic, a brown token friend whom you so easily picked
Don’t be mistaken, I am not your friend, don’t be fooled because with you I won’t pretend
I can be poised and patient while I play your game, but when it’s time for me to let out my wrath, yourself you’ll have to blame
You see, I’m not one of those minorities who will be put to shame, who will accept that your prejudices are a picture in history’s frame
I will scream and shout to get the pain out – you will understand what this spirit is about
At the same time, I know I cannot lose my composure, for it will lead to my demise and for you there will never be exposure
You see I am angry but as your hatred has become more passive aggressive and more hidden, my soul rejects the poison you try to leave – it is forbidden
Now you shake because you understand, that although I’m furious I have a plan –
I am intelligent, in touch, and sometimes wise – I will not rest until I see your demise.
